Popular US streamer IShowSpeed garnered millions of views with his latest African tour, which took him to various countries, starting with Angola and passing through 19 other countries. The 21-year-old has been praised for promoting a diverse image of Africa.
As a Ghanaian, I witnessed the impact that his Ghana streams had in the national media space and conversations.
However, IShowSpeed is far from being the first digital creator to put Africa on the map.
The reality is that in the past decade, African content creators have played a key role in reshaping narratives, using YouTube vlogs to spotlight the beautiful diversity of the African continent.
When I first launched my YouTube channel in 2012, there was very limited representation of Ghana and Africa on YouTube.
The only content I could find were old movies, a handful of vlogs and skits. In 2013, I still remember the overwhelming response I received under one of my videos, ‘What You Need To Know Before Going To Ghana’, which showed that people were craving for information.
Today the landscape looks better, thanks to other creators who decided to tell their own African stories.
While I can’t possibly name everyone, I would like to spotlight a few whose content I enjoy watching. And If you enjoyed IShowSpeed’s African streams, particularly Ghana’s, check these channels out …
Wode Maya
On X, Wode Maya describes himself as “Africa’s most influential YouTuber who is on a mission to change the negative narrative of Africa.” And with his channel launched in 2013, I can say he’s doing just that.
Born in Ghana, Wode Maya moved to China when he was a young adult. Whilst in China, he posted videos to document his experiences as a black man living there. Some of his videos were lighthearted, whilst others aimed to debunk the negative perceptions many still had about Africa(ns) and black people.
After leaving China, he broadened his content by showcasing the beauty across Africa, from Ghana, Ethiopia or Lesotho. Today, Wode Maya is undoubtedly one of Africa’s most cherished creators.
Jasmine Ama
I absolutely love Jasmine Ama’s channel. After living in Australia and working as a social worker, she relocated back to Ghana in 2020. And it’s fair to say, she hasn’t looked back since.
Jasmine Ama’s signature is in her authenticity. On her channel, you will find raw and authentic vlogs. Her videos often include a bit of cooking and strolling around lively street markets. My favorite concept is a ‘day in the life of a worker,’ where she would spend the day with Ghanaian entrepreneurs and employees to see their daily routines.
Tayo Aina
Funny enough, I discovered Tayo Aina in a video that had nothing to do with Africa. It was about his visit to Siberia. As I looked up his profile, I noticed he was a well-known figure within the African digital space.
As a proud Nigerian and incredible storyteller, he takes his subscribers along on his world travels, whilst also sharing the success stories of Africans around the globe.
Tatiana Haina
Living in Italy, Tatiana once held misconceptions about Africa. That changed when she travelled to Ghana, and began seeing the continent beyond the negative Western lens. What started as one vlog soon became two, and now, in 2026, she has published over 500 videos on her channel.
Tatiana puts Africa on the map through her incredible cooking videos and mouthwatering street food tours taking viewers from Côte d’Ivoire to Benin and other places. Viewers especially love to see her go ‘local’ and explore rural areas and markets.
Vanessa Kanbi
Now, Vanessa Kanbi’s content would make you want to drop everything and move to Ghana.
So if you’re not looking to be persuaded, don’t click, lol. Okay jokes aside, on her channel, the mum of four showcases Ghanaian culture, real estate and success stories of expats who have moved back to the motherland.
