Growing up, when I travelled, my excitement started at the airport. I was ‘there’ even before I stepped into the new country. In other words, I enjoyed the journey as much as the destination. Now as an adult, I admit that I prefer reaching my destination fast, but I still enjoy the journey (if there are no delays). Especially since I’m one of those people who likes plane food and find cabin white noise relaxing. Now as a travel blogger, it’s fair that I let you know why I love travel and how it compelled me to make a whole blog about it. Well, here are my reasons.
- Breaking the routine
I hate routines: doing the same thing over and over again. Travelling allows me to break my routine as I step into a different territory. Finding the cool spots, trying new food, experiencing new things, these are the things I enjoy. Also, travelling allows you to press “pause” when you have a busy life that doesn’t always allow you to.
- Immersive experience
Closely related to my previous point, travelling is often an immersive experience. It’s an immersion into a new culture and environment. What makes it better nowadays is being able to access those experiences through tours, on sites such as GetYourGuide or Viator. I’m the type who prefers to go out and explore rather than stay at hotels. Are you like that too? I think, what’s the point of travelling if it is to stay indoors all day? But though I like exploring, I definitely don’t want to start my day before 9am.

- Meeting people / encounters with people I’d have never seen or spoken to
I admit that this is new to me. In my travels as a little girl, I was with family members; such settings doesn’t compel you to connect with new travellers. When I started solo travelling is when I noticed the advantage of connection. It’s not necessary to ‘make friends/connections’ whilst travelling, but when it happens naturally, it’s not too bad either. In Vietnam, I booked a tour, which had some female travellers. I literally fell into the best group, and we ended up exchanging contacts and hanging out. Who would have thought? This is something I’d rarely do in London.
Now, there are so many countries I’m yet to visit but also a few I’ve had the chance to be in such as Italy, Vietnam, Ghana. But as a travel lover, let me share the countries that I would like to visit someday:
SOUTH KOREA

At this point, I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never been to South Korea, and let me tell you why. I fell in love with Korean culture around 2011 in a rather cliché way, through a Korean drama that I loved back then, Boys Over Flowers.
After this show. I began to watch non-fictional programmes about South Korea, which increased my knowledge of the culture. I went through the “deep honeymoon” phase of eating noodles with chopsticks and learning the language on Rosetta Stone. I was so engrossed! And here, we’re talking late 2011 and early 2012, before Korean culture went “mainstream” and K-dramas became popular on Netflix. Knowing all that, you’re guessing that the country has been on top of my list for a long time.
As a teenager, I didn’t have the funds to go there. And now, as an adult, I’m waiting for the right time haha. For me, South Korea is the type of country that is more fun to go to with friends rather than alone, because of the food portions that often caters to groups and the tourists activities. Also, I think it will be more enjoyable for me to explore with friends. I know, it’s funny coming from moi who loves to solo travel.
As a proud unofficial “ambassador” of Korean content, I’ve introduced my friends to Korean food and dramas, and so better believe they want to travel there now. But of course, planning a group trip takes organisation, but it will happen!
Is it even necessary for me to tell you that I’ll blog about it when the time comes? Nah, you know already.
JAPAN (TOKYO)

Japan is relatively new on my list, and I don’t know much about it. What attracts me to Tokyo more specifically, is that it feels like another planet, in the best possible way. In terms of the ambience, it’s so vastly different from what I know, and that’s what I find appealing. I like to be surprised and feel alive when I travel. I’ve had my dose of a complete change of scenery in Vietnam but I bet Japan will be something else. I also want to try Japanese food, which looks healthy and fresh.
THE CARIBBEAN & THE ISLANDS

Whether it’s The Bahamas, Reunion Island or Guadeloupe, there is a certain fantasy that comes with hopping on a tranquil island far from everything else. I’ve seen many islanders move to big cities, and a lot of the time you’d hear them say lovely things about their island. They would often refer to the calm and the easy way of life which they’ve missed. Though no place is perfect, and those places certainly aren’t, they feel like a ‘little break’ away from the tumultuousness of city life, and that to me is super healing.
MALAYSIA

For the skylines alone, Malaysia, specifically Kuala Lumpur, is a place I want to visit. I don’t know much about Malaysia except that it’s ethnically and culturally diverse (which I love) and it’s beautiful. When I see videos and pictures, I’m in awe of the tall buildings and the synergy of the city. For my next country in Southeast Asia, I wouldn’t mind going to Malaysia. The only ‘annoying’ thing when travelling long distance is the jetlag (Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of the UK), but if it’s anything like Hanoi, it won’t bother me.
MOROCCO

What’s there not to like about Morocco? The food looks sumptuous, things are cheaper than in the UK, and it’s hot. I’ve heard some pretty good things about Morocco. Growing up in France, I had a few North African friends, and I liked seeing their home décor, smelling the aroma of their local foods and receiving their hospitality. I know for a fact that Moroccan food is nice, and I cannot wait to gulp down some tagine, couscous and sweet pastries.
Truth be told, there are many more places I want to visit, and follow me on this journey to see how many I tick off this list. How many countries on this list have you been to? Any tips, leave below!
